BACKSTORY

‘Troben Cargo' is a service from Troben offering cargo-based shipping solutions. Launched in 2020, it was the first service available on the Troben app. However, the UI hasn't seen any updates since then, leaving it looking outdated and somewhat 'stiff.'
Additionally, the design documentation for this service is quite disorganized. UI elements were not created using components and variants in Figma, resulting in a tedious and time-consuming customization process as changes had to be made individually on each page.
This disarray from the design side necessitated a comprehensive redesign of the service's UI in the customer app.

WHO I'M WORKING WITH

For each project I dive into, I got the brief from the Product Owner through backlog docs and user flows. The backlog lays out what info needs to pop up on each page along the journey.
Throughout the design process, the Product Owner and I frequently engage in discussions to pinpoint user needs and pain points within certain flows. Additionally, I conduct design reviews with our IT Lead, whose insights shed light on the technical aspects of my designs. These conversations help me to carefully consider each design decision, ensuring the best possible UI design at every turn.
After finalizing and getting approval from the Product Owner, I typically propose my design to the Lead IT and Dev team. I ensure clear communication regarding color schemes, micro-interactions, and component functionalities. The development team also provides valuable feedback, reminding me to anticipate all possible user interactions within each flow.

THE ✨PROCESS✨

The first thing I did was put myself in the shoes of a user that want to sending goods with the Troben Cargo service. By following, understanding, and analyzing the flow of this service in the Troben app, I was able to gain valuable insights.
Through this empathy process, I identified several UI issues that could negatively impact the user experience, making the application difficult or uncomfortable to use.
After that , I dive into UI design while concurrently developing components and variants using atomic design principles. Each page and flow were crafted based on the insights gained from the empathy process, followed by iterative experimentation to achieve harmony in every element on each page.
One challenge I faced during the UI redesign process was accounting for the numerous possibilities and case scenarios users might encounter. I had to create UI displays for each potential situation, such as 'What will be displayed when the fleet is not available?' 'When the partner is not available?' 'When the user enters random numbers in the text field?' and many more.
Months of dedicated work have gone into crafting delightful UI and UX designs for this mobile product, with the UI evolving iteratively based on research insights and feedback from the Product Owner, IT Lead, and Dev team.

FINAL PRODUCT

I'm thrilled to unveil my final work on the fresh faces of the ‘Troben Cargo’ service Troben Customer App! Here's a glimpse of what's in store.
SIDE NOTE: The fresh new look is now available on iOS! We're still working on the Android version, which should be ready in 2-3 months from May 2024.

WHAT I LEARNED?

After diving deep into research & design, here's what I've uncovered:
  • Understanding the product and application flow is crucial to prevent design errors caused by a lack of insight into the flow,
  • It's also essential to listen to and understand the developers' perspectives on the technical aspects of the application,
  • Structured thinkingis key to creating UI that accounts for all possible scenarios within the flow,
  • Additionally, this process has helped me hone my copywriting and illustration skills.
