BACKSTORY

This redesign process is done as an exercise, without any brief from the client. The case study was obtained from the Binar Academy’s challenge. The research process, User Survey and Usability Testing is carried out on several person who may use this application.

DISCOVER

The Conventional Way To Rent a Car

Let’s take a look to the conventional way to rent a car,

User Survey

Based on the shortcomings of the conventional car rental process, I conducted an online survey in order to explore the attitudes and feelings of potential users to validate things that I observe before. are they feel the same? or is it just me? Our target users consisted of anyone over the age of 17, can drive a car, and loves to travel.

DEFINE

Problem

Based on user survey, most of user felt that the administrative and payment process in car rental took a lot of time and not that flexible. So that customer problems are obtained in the form of,

Point of View

From the user survey data and problem statement, a point of view is prepared that contains information and needs from the user.

User Persona & User Journey Map

The user persona is structured to find out information from the target user of this application. Meanwhile, the User Journey Map is made to find out user thoughts when they rent a car in conventional way, so that improvement opportunities points can be obtained.

How Might we Question

Created as research objective summary of the user's pain points when they do the car rental process and the problem statement that has been made before.
How might we help customers to save their time in the car rental process?

HIGH FIDELITY DESIGN

Brain Storming (for application flow)

Here I make possible steps to take when renting a car using the 'CARRENT' application. In this flow, a car rental process is created that brings the car more closer to the user. So the user doesn't spend a lot of time to go to to the car rental office and returning it again to the same place.

Information Architecture

This document was made to provide an operational map of how a product acts and functions work for users. It shows menus on the application, and rent flows through the application.

Wireframe

The digital sketch of ‘CARRENT’ application was made in Figma, according to the Information Architecture.

Design System

Making a group of design elements is needed in the High Fidelity image-making process. Design system contains components and design assets.

Hi-Fi

There is a highlight of some features of this application, made with a delightful interface and interaction design. Please kindly check the full prototype through this link :)

USABILITY TESTING

‘CARRENT’ Guerrilla UT

This Usability testing has been done by 3 users that might use this application. They try the prototype, while following the scenario plan that has been prepared. Here is the UT Result...

UT Conclusion

Users who are in their 20s can follow this UT smoothly and adapt to the application prototype quickly and very well. 2 out of 3 users can quickly understand the application flow and try to solve the scenario plan. However, for user aged >40 years it took longer time to understand the application flow, adapt to the UI display, and complete the given scenario.

What's Next?

- Evaluation of application flow, which should be made more concise and easier.
- Fixed the cards in the application.
- Evaluate the placement of the Self Pick-Up and Self-Drop Off features so that they can be more easily accessed by users.

WHAT I LEARNED?

Through my first UI/UX case study, I feel comfortable doing both research and design process. For me, doing the research process is the same as playing a puzzle. Trying to put each piece together one by one to become one bigger picture as the research objective. Then the design process becomes my playground to convey solutions to users through visual forms. Doing research and design process simultaneously allows me to improve my visual tastes while still having to fit the stated research objectives.
Through this project, I learn how to present my UI/UX Design process. How I work on this UI/UX case study from starch to finish. In this project, I get good feedback and reward from my facilitator about my research process (discover & define process).
